Pace University had its annual Fall Mini Career Coaching night on Wednesday sponsored by Dr. Barry Miller, Manager Alumni Career Programs and Services. SGES was invited to attend as a professional coaching and executive search firm. During the evening, Susan found she was giving the most advice to people who were employed but were looking to transition into another field. The one assumption that they all were making was that they were at a disadvantage because they didn’t have much, if any, experience in the industry they were considering. Their attitude of fear and doubt dissipated into an alternative mindset of confidence and determination after speaking with Susan from SGES for a few minutes. “The best part of the evening was watching faces move from apprehension into smiles. Repositioning their thought process and assumptions were what these people needed and weren’t receiving from friends, colleagues or other coaches. It helps when I can talk from my own experience: having changed fields a couple of times and also having executed searches in a wide variety of industries.” It was a very satisfying experience for Susan to be able to give back to the university where she attended the graduate program in business and received her MBA. We hope that the people Susan met will be able to reinvigorate their job searches with a positive spin which will be a great push toward them achieving their desired results. SGES cited in Forbes.com article “Don’t Get Stumped In The Interview: The New NEW Interview Questions”
Sunday, May 9th, 2010Susan Goldberg and her retained executive search and career coaching firm were mentioned in the most recent edition of Forbes.com in an article about interviewing. The information was drawn from the “Secrets of Interviewing” presentation which Susan had presented at Carole Hyatt’s Salon for networking on March 24, 2010 (see earlier news item), and from a telephone interview and subsequent email exchanges between the journalist and SGES’ Owner and Principal. It appeared from the interview and email exchanges, that what had most interested the journalist, who was in attendance the evening of the presentation, were the specific examples of recent trends in interviewing questions that Susan detailed at the end of the presentation. Those examples were a combination of interviewing questions which Susan, herself, had used for particular retained search clients who were trying to determine the potential employee fit for their organization along with those questions which she gathered from discussions with a sample of cutting-edge small business owners for the same purpose.
